The Great British Weather - A Never-Ending Moanathon!
For those of you that know me well, you will know that I love to find a positive in every situation and I ABSOLUTELY love the sun.
So let’s talk about the weather, or should I say, "Let’s moan about the weather."
The British weather: unpredictable, infuriating, and the glue that holds our small talk together. No matter the season, we’re never happy - and frankly, we wouldn’t know what to do if we were!
Sunshine? Time to Complain
The moment temperatures rise above 20°C, Britain goes into meltdown. People rush to the nearest beer garden (me too) like it's the last day on Earth. Meanwhile, a national crisis unfolds:
* “It’s too hot! We’re not built for this!”
* “I can’t sleep at night - it’s like a furnace in my bedroom.”
* “Is this the end? Should we start rationing water?”
Two days later, it rains, and we breathe a collective sigh of relief - until we start moaning about the rain.
Rain: The Default Setting
It doesn't matter if it’s drizzle, torrential downpour, or “it’s just spitting”, rain is the great British villain. We’ll complain about it, but at the same time, we’ll act shocked when it happens.
* “Oh great, more bloody rain.”
* “I had plans! Ruined! Typical.”
* “Why do I even bother checking the forecast? It’s always wrong.”
Yet somehow, when we go abroad and experience actual dry weather, we panic:
* “They haven’t had rain in weeks? How do they survive?!”
Snow: The Apocalypse
A few flakes of snow are enough to send the country into chaos. Transport grinds to a halt, supermarkets are emptied like we're prepping for the end of days, and people forget how to walk properly.
* “Schools are closed? But it’s barely two centimetres!”
* “I don’t trust it. It’ll turn to ice and kill us all.”
* “The whole country has shut down. Absolute joke.”
Meanwhile... in Canada, they’re casually driving through eight feet of snow without complaint.
Conclusion: The Weather Is Against Us!
In Britain, the weather is never right, and the complaints will never stop. If one day we woke up to a perfect climate, we’d find something to whinge about - probably that it’s too perfect and therefore suspicious.
Are you a moaner or do you switch to the positive?
The sun is great for getting in the garden, the park, meeting friends, sitting outside or just knocking back a pint or a sleek red wine in a beer garden.
The rain ☔️ puddles to splash in. Warm cosy nights in by the fire with a mug of hot chocolate or a nice rosy red wine.
And the snow, well come on its snowmen, playing with the children, having snowball fights, then warming up with a nice mulled red wine.
Moan or celebrate, which one makes you happy?
I’m off now to prep my shorts, jeans and snow boots just in case!
Take care, Dawn
